SUMMARY:AI and our Election: Policy Review\, Deepfakes and Open Discussion
DESCRIPTION:With voting open on Labour Day\, the Christchurch AI Risk and Ethics Community is looking at what New Zealand's political parties are offering on AI policy\, and how it will\, or won't\, help with the risks and ethical issues raised by AI. Hazel will lead a discussion on which particular risks the various parties want to handle or ignore. The group will also look at how generative AI has been used to create websites and video ads during the election campaigns so far: who's using it\, what for\, and what the law currently says about it. Suggested pre-reading includes the Good Ancestors NZ AI Policy scorecard and the Advertising Standards Authority's guidance note on AI use in advertising.\n\nThe meetup runs from 5:45pm to 7:15pm on Tuesday 27 October 2026 at EPIC Innovation\, 76/106 Manchester Street\, Christchurch\, followed by an open discussion with drinks and food at a nearby bar. It's free to attend with an RSVP on Meetup and is open to anyone interested in AI policy\, risk and ethics.
