This free talk explores what artificial intelligence is, how it is being used in everyday situations, and the opportunities and challenges it presents. Many people already interact with AI every day through online search, navigation apps, streaming services, social media and customer support tools, often without realising it. The session covers practical ways to use AI responsibly, the benefits it can offer, and what to be mindful of around privacy, accuracy, bias and trust. It is presented by Jennifer Campbell-Meier and Rebecca Mines of Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington's School of Information Management and Wellington School of Business and Government.

The talk runs from 10:30am to 11:30am on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at the Ngā Paiaka Bleachers on the ground floor of Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Central Library, 65 Victoria Street, Wellington. It is free and part of Wellington City Libraries' programme for Te Wiki Kaumātua Seniors' Week, run in collaboration with Victoria University of Wellington. It is aimed at adults and seniors, and everyone is welcome.
