The first session in Startup Queenstown Lakes' Raising Capital Series is a practical introduction to raising capital for founders who are not sure if they are ready to talk to investors. Peter Ramsay, Network Manager at Mainland Angel Investors, and Wayne Hudson, Director of whIPit Limited and a Flying Kiwi Angels associate, explain in plain language what angel investors are and what they bring beyond money, when friends and family funding makes sense, how long a raise takes, what to sort out first, the mistakes that cost people, and when crowdfunding is a better fit. There is no pitching, and there is time for questions at the end.
The webinar runs on Zoom from 5pm to 6pm on Thursday 8 October 2026 and is free, with registration through Humanitix and the link sent in the registration email. It is hosted by Startup Queenstown Lakes in partnership with Mainland Angel Investors and Flying Kiwi Angels, and is aimed at founders and business owners in the south who expect to raise capital. Part 2, on due diligence and term sheets, follows on Thursday 12 November.
